Types of event

Motor sport divides broadly into two types of event: those where cars compete directly against each other, as in circuit racing; and those where each car competes alone.

The latter category includes events where speed is of the essence, but it also includes events where timing plays little or no part. The charts below should help you choose. Each branch of the sport is described elsewhere.
