Rally News30th August 2005
As previously reported, this is a
year of consolidation for the Roger Albert Clark Rally and the format
being worked on by the organisers will build on the successful
running of the event last November. We hope soon to be able to
announce the location of new stage miles in the Lake District that have
been added to Sunday's mileage which will replace the long run out to Kielder which we saw in 2004. Competitors cannot expect an easy run however, as Monday and Tuesday's quota of stage miles has been increased this year to keep the pressure on throughout the event.
Former World Sportscar Champion,
Ray Bellm has confirmed his entry for this year and will use the
Historic Rallysport Ford Escort RS1600 Mk I which he took to fourth
place on the event last year. And as rumoured on the DeLacy Motor Club events page in early June, reigning National Champion Steve Perez has announced that he will tackle this year's event not in the Porsche that he manhandled through the trees last November but instead he will start the rally in a Lancia Stratos.
The Stratos, with it's mid-engined,
rear-wheel drive Mark your calendar to be there when the second running of the Roger Albert Clark Rally kicks off at the Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield on Saturday 19th November and make sure that you make it to one of the stages to see the Stratos up against it's contemporary rivals in one of the special stages planned over the following three days. 12th May 2005 Following the success of the Roger Albert Clark rally last year the organisers have decided to consolidate this year rather than go for a complete change. They have however listened to comments made by competitors so there are more stage miles on the Sunday this year including mileage in the Lake District and the long run out to Kielder on the Sunday evening has been dropped. Instead some closer stages in Scotland are planned! Monday and Tuesday stage miles have both been increased so the challenge will be even harder this year. Event entry costs have been lowered to £1750 and stage mileage increased to around 220 miles. Another significant change is the fact that the Roger Albert Clark Rally and the Roger Albert Clark Open Rally will both be run concurrently. In addition to the above, it is intended to run a clubman's rally that will follow the rally route on the Monday. This will allow those competitors on a more limited budget to enjoy the atmosphere and the stages of the rally and to compare their stage times to those of the top drivers. Regulations have been available since Friday 6th May and to date the organisers have received more than 200 requests for copies and eight confirmed entries have also been received, complying with Colin Heppenstall's request to get entries in early this year! Remember it's now only just over six months away..... 2004 Rally on SKY SPORTS Coverage of the 2004 Roger Albert Clark Rally is scheduled to be shown on SKY SPORTS in the World Motorsport programme. Sunday March 20th 4pm & 11.30pm Sky Sports Extra The feature could be anywhere in the programme so times are approximate only. 19th February 2005 The Roger Albert Clark Rally team will at the International Historic Motorsport Show at Stoneleigh Park Coventry 25th -27th February 2005.
