"Every Official on the 1999 Rally will receive a free ticket to a Silverstone Rallysprint in 2000"
Popular marshalling locations are almost full.

Rallysprint Tickets

With the generous support of Silverstone Circuits every official on the 1999 Rally of Great Britain will receive a free ticket to a Silverstone Rallysprint in 2000. The distribution of these tickets will be based upon the signing on sheets or cards returned to The Motor Sports Association from the 1999 event. It is very important that the addresses are legible. It is your responsibility to fill the form in completely and clearly, as well as making sure it is handed to a senior official for it to be returned to Motor Sports House.

Entries Closing

The first closing date for entries has passed and the event is really upon us. Now is the time for anyone who is not sorted for this year to plan for the event. The message from the Regional Organisers is that the popular locations are almost full. All the details you need to plan your marshalling is overleaf.

Road Books & Timecards

The route survey has not produced any changes and therefore the road book is already at the printers. This year’s timecard books are printed and will be available at the training sessions planned for the end of October.

The List So Far

To date there has been particularly strong support from overseas crews and there is no doubt that a full 160 entries will be running.

Cardiff 2000

The announcement that Cardiff will be the headquarters City for the Rally for the next  three years has signalled a major shake up in the way the event is to be run.

Not only will the start be on Thursday and the finish on Sunday but all the stages will be on gravel surfaces. The rally will therefore also have an extra day and be over four days not three. These changes are to comply with the FIA’s requirements for all World Championship Rallies.

It looks as though this spells the end to the traditional ‘Sunday Stages’ and produces a whole new set of challenges for organisers, stage commanders and marshals for the future.

The planning and setting up of the first Rally of the new millenium looks to be an exciting and interesting time.
