"The route has not changed since being released in March."

The planning process for this year’s event rolls on as meetings and site visits continue.
The route has not changed since being released to the press in March. The detailed stage routes are in place and the operation of all the Rally venues has been considered.

‘A’ System Survey

A satisfactory radio survey has been carried out for the ‘A’ system on the stages. Now the production of the enormous amount of documentation required to run a successful World Championship Rally has started.

The Results System

In 1999 there will be significant changes in the results operation. The road section timecard will be collected at the time controls before special stages and the times phoned in to the results office. This will speed up the computing of results and simplify the timecard handling at stage stop lines. The details of these changes will be explained in the Operations Manual and at the Regional Briefing sessions as well as a national training session to be organised for all Senior Control Officers.

Service Area Planning

When planning a service area each of the eight registered World Rally Championship two car teams is allocated between 900-1200sq m.

Outside this area the teams require parking for six vehicles for people movement.

The WRC teams FIA regulated fuel is dispensed from one or two large lorries.

The tyre companies have between them over twelve articulated transporters.

This is why, at some locations, there needs to be a separate area for the other 140 competitors and their service crews!
