Spectator car parking has been arranged at every stage and venue. The following information gives details of these car parks, routes to get there and some information about each venue. Some car parks are lettered (A, B, C, etc) so that spectators know which one they are going to or have entered. Routes to car parks will be signposted.
Tickets for the Rally Show, Sunday Stages and Builth Wells Service Area can be obtained in advance from the Booking Office at Silverstone Circuit, Towcester, northants NN12 8TN. Telephone 01327 857 273.
Apart from the marshalling clubs listed, many more clubs and individuals assist on the stages, at service areas and at Rally HQ. Without their help, the event could not run.
NO ACCESS THROUGH ANY STAGE START OR FINISH, EITHER BY CAR OR ON FOOT. THESE AREAS ARE OUT OF BOUNDS TO SPECTATORS. THIS IS NEW THIS YEAR AND WILL BE ENFORCED.

08.45 - SS2 CORNBURY PARK Stage length 2.57 miles Car parks open at 06.00 on Sunday. Admission 10 per person (2 per child under 16) Main marshalling clubs: Whitney MC, Oxford MC, Thame MC, Oxford University MDC A mixture of asphalt and gravel roads within Cornbury Park, the stage starts on gravel before emerging at Crane Hill Gate House onto fast asphalt through the deer park towards Cornbury House. A sharp right alongside the House leads onto a section of undulating asphalt, culminating in a hairpin left onto the gravel farm road. An exciting series of high speed jumps and 90-degree bends along the other side of the House leads to the finish. For safety reasons, there is no spectator access to the first section of the stage (in the wood before Crane Hill Gate House). Location: Cornbury Park near Charlbury, 22 miles northwest of Oxford off A44. Routes: from the west use the A40 leaving at Burford via B4437 to Charlbury. From the north and southeast use A44 or B4437 to Charlbury.
10.15 - SS3 SILVERSTONE 1 10.30 - SS4 SILVERSTONE 2 Stage length 5.34 miles Car parks open at 07.30, Sunday. Admission 12 per person (3 per child under 16) Main marshalling clubs: CSMA North London, CSMA East Midlands, NatWest MC, Dukeries MC, Lindholme MSC, Carlton MC, Wakefield MC An intriguing test of driving skills, combining the pristine surface of the Grand Prix track from the pits exit road through Becketts, Stowe, Vale and Club before a hairpin right at Abbey onto very fast demanding gravel linking onto the Stowe Circuit. It then crosses the International circuit into an all new stadium area overlooking a high-speed 100-metre powerslide on gravel, before returning to the Grand Prix circuit at Abbey, under the bridge and via a special slalom section in front of the Brooklands hospitality suites. The final section includes the sweeping Luffield and a quick trip into the pit lane entrance before the flying finish along the the start/finish straight. Competitors tackle the stage twice, starting at 30-second intervals. The Historic Rally precedes the main event, attempting the stage twice from 08.20. Location: off A43, 12 miles southwest of M1 junction 15A. Routes: access is from A43 only. From the north and east, use M1 junction 15A then A43(T) past Towcester to Silverstone village. From the west use A43(T) to Silverstone village. Follow signs to Silverstone Circuit. Ample free parking giving access to the stages.
12.10 - SS5 V-RALLY MILLBROOK 1 12.20 - SS6 V-RALLY MILLBROOK 2 Stage length 4.54 miles Car parks open at 07.30, Sunday. Admission 12 per person (3 per child under 16) Main marshalling clubs: West Essex Car Club, Bexley LCC, Wickford AC, Chelmsford MC, Kings Lynn CC, Cambridge CC, Sutton & Cheam MC Vauxhall's test circuit is designed to put car and driver through the ultimate series of challenges and Millbrook promises to be even more demanding and spectacular in 1998, with a revised route and the addition of an extra 1.5 miles of gravel. The stage offers unrivalled viewing of several sections of stage from one point and includes a number of blind crests and flat-out sweeping bends. For safety reasons, not all the stage will be open to spectators. Competitors tackle the stage twice, starting at 30- second intervals. Competitors in the Historic Rally tackle the stage twice from 10.10. Location: Millbrook is 7 miles southwest of Bedford. Routes: the ONLY route is via B530 and the unclassified road to Millbrook. Follow signs from M1 junction 13 and A421. All other routes will be subject to Road Closure orders. Hard-standing parking for 12,000 cars. Warning: strictly NO spectator traffic through Millbrook village.
14.00 - SS7 SILVERSTONE SUPERSPECIAL Stage length 1.21 miles Car parks open at 07.30 on Sunday. Admission free to the first 8,000 advance bookings for Silverstone Main marshalling clubs: Middlesex County AC, Sporting Owner Drivers Club, Nottingham & District MC, Redline MSC Two competitors start side-by-side, but on different tracks; by the end of the stage, they have driven exactly the same route but in a different order. The tracks start on asphalt then through two very fast righthanders onto gravel, to the respective jump and watersplash before both brake very hard to their respective tight, difficult hairpins. The tracks then split: one goes under and the other over the bridge, crossing to the final asphalt corners to complete the circuit. Each then continues on the other track to a dramatic finish. Location: off A43, 12 miles southwest of M1 junction 15A. Routes: access is from A43 only. From the north and east use M1 junction 15A then A43(T) past Towcester to Silverstone village. From the west use A43(T) to Silverstone village. Follow signs to Silverstone Circuit. Ample free parking giving access to the stages.
14.10 - SS8 SILVERSTONE 3 14.20 - SS9 SILVERSTONE 4 Stage length 4.23 miles Car parks open at 07.30 on Sunday. Admission 12 per person (3 per child under 16) Main marshalling clubs: CSMA North London, CSMA East Midlands, NatWest MC, Dukeries MC, Lindholme MSC, Carlton MC, Wakefield MC Another attempt at SS3/4, but over a slightly shorter route. Competitors tackle the stage twice, starting at 30-second intervals. Location: off A43, 12 miles southwest of M1 junction 15A. Routes: access is from A43 only. From the north and east use M1 junction 15A then A43(T) past Towcester to Silverstone village. From the west use A43(T) to Silverstone village. Follow signs to Silverstone Circuit. Ample free parking giving access to the stages.
14.45 - SS10 TOWCESTER Stage length 1.99 miles Car parks open at 08.00 on Sunday. Admission 10 per person (2 per child under 16) Main marshalling clubs: British Motor Racing Marshals Club, British Rally Marshals Club, Rugby MC Starts in front of the racecourse and almost immediately goes into a series of sharp loose-surface bends, before going through to the centre of the racecourse. After two very narrow cattle grids, which will call for precise driving, the cars go onto asphalt roads alongside Easton Neston House. The Historic Rally has two runs starting at 11.35. Location: Towcester Racecourse, off A43, 7 miles southwest of M1 junction 15A. Routes: Use M1 junction 15A then A43(T) to Towcester; from the south, use A5 from Milton Keynes. Access to the main car parks is off A5.
16.40 - SS11 DONINGTON 1 16.50 - SS12 DONINGTON 2 Stage length 3.91 miles Car parks open at 12.00 on Sunday. Admission 12 per person (3 per child under 16) Main marshalling clubs: Eastwood & District MC, British Motor Racing Marshals Club, CSMA East Midlands, Loughborough MC, Carlton MC, Rolls Royce MC A classic spectator stage using parts of the race track and gravel roads around the circuit and infield. Excellent viewing around the outside of the circuit and on the infield, where there will be a series of specially constructed and floodlit high-speed jumps. Fans will be perfectly placed to watch the front runners cope as darkness descends and adds difficulty. Competitors tackle the stage twice, starting at 30-second intervals. The Historic Rally will tackle the stages from 13.45. Location: 3 miles west of M1 near Castle Donington. Routes: from the north, leave M1 junction 24 and follow signs to Donington. From the south, leave M1 junction 23A then via A453. From the West Midlands, use M42/A42 onto A447 then A453. From Derby, use A6 and B6540 through Castle Donington. Large car parks around the main circuit entrance give easy access to all spectator areas. Warning: No infield parking; no access from Melbourne Lane.
18.45 - SS13 NETWORK Q CHELTENHAM Stage length 0.87 miles Car parks open at 14.00 on Sunday. Admission 12 per person (3 per child under 16) Main marshalling clubs: Cheltenham MC and others Another attempt at this mixture of asphalt and gravel roads within the Racecourse complex. Excellent viewing from the Racecourse grandstands. Competitors in the Historic Rally tackle the stage from 15.50. Location: Cheltenham Racecourse, north of town centre next to A435. Routes: from the north leave M5 junction 9 then via A46 and A435 towards Cheltenham; from the south leave M5 junction 11 then via Cheltenham to A435. Follow signs to the Racecourse from all directions. Car parks alongside the Racecourse.
07.20 - SS14 RADNOR Stage length 14.67 miles Car parks open at 18.00 on Sunday. Parking 7 per car Main marshalling clubs: Quinton MC, Midland AC Fast roads, tight hairpins and steep climbs make this an excellent viewing stage. Location: 5 miles southwest of Knighton, off A488. Routes: from north and east via Knighton and A488. From south and west via A44 and A488. Car parks A & B are entered from A488; car park A is recommended for overnight parking. Warning: All other roads into this forest will be restricted by official closure orders.
09.45 - SS15 MYHERIN 1 Stage length 10.37 miles Car parks open at 18.00 on Sunday. Parking 7 per car Main marshalling club: Epynt MC For the first time on the Rally, this stage will be used both in the morning and the afternoon. It is a fast-flowing stage with good spectating, but high sections can be affected by fog or low cloud. Location: 3 miles east of Devils Bridge. Routes: all routes via A44, A4120 and B4575 to a large car park on the south side of the forest. Warning: one-way system (west to east) between Cwmystwyth and Rhayader on the mountain road. There is no access to the north of the stage from A44.
10.30 - SS16 TYWI Stage length 12.23 miles Car parks open at 06.00 on Monday. Parking 7 per car Main marshalling club: Knutsford & District MC Never used before, this demanding stage is set high above the Elan Valley. Good mid-point viewing available from the car park; unfortunately, access is difficult. Location: 5 miles east of Tregaron, north of the unclassified from Tregaron to Abergwesyn. Routes: approach only from Tregaron over the mountain road towards Abergwesyn. Warning: one-way system from the stage exit to Abergwesyn, to enable competitors to exit to stage safely. Do not attempt to enter through Pontrhydfendigiad.
12.55 - SS17 ESGAIR DAFYDD Stage length 5.35 miles Car parks open at 08.00 on Monday. Parking 7 per car Main marshalling club: Federation of British Police Motor Clubs Another stage new to the Rally this year. Starting uphill, it offers good viewing of sweeping bends which used to be part of the TV rallysprint course in the 1970s and 1980s. Location: 5 miles southwest of Llanwrtyd Wells on the north side of A483. Routes: approach on A483 from Landovery in the south, or Llanwrtyd Wells in the north. Warning: parking is very limited, so arrive early. There is no access to the stage through the lanes to the south, nor through the competitors' entrance from A483. Verge parking on A483 is prohibited.
13.40 - SS18 CRYCHAN Stage length 13.53 miles Car parks open at 08.00 on Monday. Parking 7 per car Main marshalling club: Kidderminster Car Club Last used in 1995, this is a stage enjoyed by both drivers and spectators. Its complex road system allows viewing of numerous junctions in close proximity. Location: 7 miles southwest of Llanwrtyd Wells on the south side of A483. Routes: approach on A483 from Landovery in the south, or Llanwrtyd Wells in the north. Leave A483 at Cynhordy and follow signs. The two car parks are northwest of the stage. Warning: do not attempt to approach the stage from the south or east; road closure orders will be in operation and the Army will be firing live rounds on the Sennybridge Training Area (Epynt).
14.15 - SS19 CEFN Stage length 5.63 miles Car parks open at 08.00 on Monday. Parking 7 per car Main marshalling club: Vauxhall Motoring Group (Wirral) This is the shortest of the mid-Wales stages and offers fast sweeping bends with excellent viewing in cleared areas. Location: 3 miles southwest of Llanwrtyd Wells on the south side of A483. Routes: car park C is accessed through Llangammarch Wells; please drive slowly though the village. Warning: limited space, so arrive early. Do not attempt to approach the stage from Cynghordy; road closure will be in operation.
16.35 - SS20 SWEET LAMB Stage length 15.72 miles Car parks open at 10.00 on Monday. Parking 7 per car Main marshalling club: CSMA Shortened this year to include only the southern half of Hafren Forest and Sweet Lamb. A major viewing area will be created in the Sweet Lamb Bowl, with watersplashes and a jump (floodlit after dark). Location: 6 miles west of Llanidloes, near Clywedog reservoir. Routes: car park A (Sweet Lamb) has direct access from A44. Car park B can only be reached via B4581 from Llanidloes and the Clywedog Dam unclassified road. Warning: no access via Staylittle or Elan-Y-Nant to Old Hall; these roads will be closed. No roadside parking on A44.
17.20 - SS21 MYHERIN 2 Stage length 10.37 miles Car parks open at 18.00 on Sunday. Parking 7 per car Main marshalling club: Epynt MC The last stage of the day and a repeat of SS15, but now in darkness, which adds to the drama as competitors strive to beat their earlier times on a stage they feel they know! Location: 3 miles east of Devils Bridge. Routes: all routes via A44, A4120 and B4575 to a large car park on the south side of the forest. Warning: one-way system (west to east) between Cwmystwyth and Rhayader on the mountain road. There is no access to the north of the stage from A44.
21.35 - CHELTENHAM RACECOURSE Location: Cheltenham Racecourse, north of town centre next to A435. Routes: from the north leave M5 junction 9 then via A46 and A435 towards Cheltenham; from the south leave M5 junction 11 then via Cheltenham to A435. Follow signs to the Racecourse from all directions.
07.05 - SS22 ST. GWYNNO Stage length 8.54 miles Car parks open at 20.00 on Monday. Parking 7 per car Main marshalling clubs: Foresters CC, South Wales AC, Abergavenny MC A steady climb from the start before levelling out past the main spectator area, where trees have been felled to give uninterrupted viewing for some distance, followed by a wide, smooth and fast road to the finish. Location: west of A470 Cardiff to Merthyr Tydfil trunk road, northwest of Pontypridd. Routes: leave A470 at Pontypridd and follow B4273 via Ynysybwl. Car park around the village of Llanwonno gives excellent views along the middle part of the stage. Warning: one-way traffic system. The roads around the start will be closed and manned all night by Police to prevent disturbance to residents of this sensitive area. Be aware that there is a high level of crime in the area and all precautions should be taken to secure vehicles and belongings.
07.35 - SS23 TYLE Stage length 6.59 miles Car parks (see SS24) open at 20.00 on Monday. Parking 7 per car Main marshalling clubs: Cornwall and Devon Motoring Clubs A smooth, fast-flowing forest road high on top of Rhigos Mountain. Location: east of A4061 between Treherbert and Hirwaun. Routes: from the north or south via A4061. Warning: This stage has no car park, but it is possible to walk from the car park of SS24; take care walking on the road.
08.10 - SS24 RHONDDA Stage length 22.56 miles Car parks open at 20.00 on Monday. Parking 7 per car Main marshalling clubs: Griffin MC, Hart MC, GORC, Herefordshire MC, 60 & Worcester MC Extremely testing stage with some high-speed sections interspersed with tighter, twisty roads. Location: west of A4061 between Treherbert and Hirwaun, on the top of Rhigos Mountain. Routes: from the north or south via A4061. Large overnight car park gives access to many viewing areas and also to SS23 and SSS25. Warning: walking to SS23 and SS25 will not be permitted while the rally is in progress. All roads around Cwmparc village and the stage start will be closed overnight. Police will remove any vehicle illegally parked on the roadside and/or land operated by Tower Colliery. Be aware of the high level of crime in the area and take all precautions to secure vehicles and belongings.
10.05 - SS25 RESOLFEN Stage length 27.34 miles Car parks open at 20.00 on Monday (E) or 06.00 on Tuesday (C+D). Parking 7 per car Main marshalling clubs: Amman & DMC, Bridgend AC, Gwendraeth MC, Pembroke MC, Range Rover Register The longest stage of the event. A fast stage with sections across open moorland, before steep drops where competitors pass each other going in different directions on opposite sides of valleys on three occasions, with a new finish this year. Location: northeast of Neath, south of A465 dual carriageway overlooking the Vale of Neath. Routes: car park C access only via the village of Efail-fach, from B4287 between Neath and its junction with A4107 heading north out of Port Talbot and from M4 junction 40. Police will operate a one-way system on the exit from this car park. Car park D access only by following RAC signs off A4107 at Cymer. Car park E is a new car park accessed only through the village of Resolven off A465 dual carriageway. Warning: the road from Neath to the stage start will be closed from Monday afternoon, as will the villages of Cwmgwrach and Blaengwach next to the finish. Be aware of the high level of crime in the area and take all precautions to secure vehicles and belongings.
11.55 - SS26 RHEOLA Stage length 15.47 miles Car parks open at 20.00 on Monday (H) and 06.00 on Tuesday (F+G). Parking 7 per car Main marshalling clubs: Classic Sports & Performance CC, Welsh Counties CC Uphill from the start, then running alongside part of the Sarn Helen Roman road, with unrivalled views in all directions. Very fast and smooth, with some steep drops to test the competitors before a downhill section to the finish. Location: north of A465 past Resolven and the Vale of Neath. Routes: for car park F, approach the village of Abergarwed on B4242 from the southwest only; no access from the north. Car park G is just south of Cryant and is accessed via A4109 from either direction. Car park H is two miles north of Glyn Neath on A4109, approached from either direction. Warning: use of B4242 from Glyn Neath past Resolven to Neath will be restricted with No Parking enforced by Police. Be aware of the high level of car crime in this area and take all precautions to secure vehicles and belongings.
13.10 - SS27 ARGOED Stage length 5.59 miles Car parks open at 07.00 on Tuesday. Parking 7 per car Main marshalling club: Swansea MC A short stage, but difficult for the crews. The first half is tight, uphill and slippery while the remainder is smooth and fast. Location: south of A4107, 4.5 miles northeast of Port Talbot. Routes: car park access from A4107 between Port Talbot and Cymer. Only approach from M4 junction 40 and Port Talbot. If coming from earlier stages, approach via Hirwaun down the new A465 dual carriageway past Neath onto M4 eastbound to exit onto A4107 at junction 40 - this is by far the quickest way. Warning: Police will take action against anyone parking on B4282 between Cwmafan and Maesteg. Be aware of the high level of car crime in this area and take all precautions to secure vehicles and belongings.
13.30 - SS28 MARGAM Stage length 16.81 miles Car parks open at 07.00 on Tuesday. Parking 7 per car Main marshalling clubs: Port Talbot MC, Cambridge CC The final stage of the event. Difficult forest roads with many tight, slippery sections and big drops before opening into a smooth fast middle section followed by a tricky downhill run into the beautiful Margam Park where there is unrivalled viewing of the cars travelling through the Park. Location: just off M4 junction 38 east of Port Talbot. Routes: Car park K can only be reached via a one-way system from A48 north of Pyle and M4 junction 37. There will also be a one- way sytem when leaving. Car park L access from M4 junction 40 and follow signs to Goytre; it is not possible to approach this car park from the north. Car park M is reached from M4 junction 38 and A48 to the main entrance of Margam Park; no access to Margam Park at any other point. Warning: be aware of the high level of car crime in this area and take all precautions to secure vehicles and belongings.
16.40 - CHELTENHAM RACECOURSE Car parks open at 12.00 on Tuesday. Admission 6 per person (2 per child under 16) The Finish. New this year is a dramatic celebration with celebrities, live action and music to entertain you while you await the triumphant return of the rally cars, which will signal the start of a gala prize presentation. Location: Cheltenham Racecourse, north of town centre next to A435. Routes: from the north leave M5 junction 9 then via A46 and A435 towards Cheltenham; from the south leave M5 junction 11 then via Cheltenham to A435. Follow signs to the Racecourse from all directions.
Resolfen has limited car parking (7 per car) and access for spectators.

As usual, RAC signs will help you reach the car parks. Please follow the approved routes, be patient when there are traffic hold-ups and do not try to explore: many roads will have restricted access. Following the signs will be the quickest way.
Police will take steps against people who park on the roadside and not in the car parks.

When you leave the car parks, follow any direction signs or instructions and DO NOT TRY TO EMULATE THE DRIVING OF THE COMPETITORS YOU HAVE BEEN WATCHING. DRIVE WITH CARE AND CONSIDERATION FOR OTHER ROAD USERS.
