The Glory of Goodwood

Competition - You could have won your own copy of this excellent book

Book Review

by UKMotorsport Racing Director, Philip Wood

For me there are two kinds of books - travel books to aid the passing of tedious hours on planes and trains - and armchair books, serious tomes to be devoured and re-read until the last scrap of information is digested. The Glory of Goodwood falls into the latter category, charting the history of the famous circuit in an enthralling mixture of narrative, anecdotes and pictures. Nothing seems to have been omitted - even the designer of the famous Scalextric Goodwood Chicane gets a mention. From the early career of "Freddie" Lennox, Earl of March, whose energy and vision led to the opening of the circuit in 1948, through to his Grandson's revival of racing at Goodwod in 1998, nothing has been omitted.

But this is more than a celebration of the birth, death and re-birth of racing at Goodwood - the writers have charted the growth of motor racing in post war Britain. Great names such as Moss, Collins Nuvolari and Hill are seen in machines from Aston Martin, Jaguar, Cooper and many, many more!

Excellent book - put it on your Christmas list now!
