Round 10 - Llandow

Report by Clive Wooster

"For those who thought the Welsh rounds of the Championship were a bit of trek, Llandow on Saturday 17th July was a pleasant surprise. Less than 40 minutes from the Severn Bridge, this Motorsport centre, with not only its Circuit but a Kart track as well, provided the SBD contenders with two practice runs and three timed runs of the mile long circuit.

In Roadgoing Series Production over 2000cc Derek Jones was the first to take his two lap runs . Knocking off a series of 90 second times, Derek did not take T3 as his 90.09 for 3rd place against the Turbo opposition was his best he felt he could do without overly stretching his tired transmission in the BMW.

In Roadgoing Specialist Production up to 1700cc, the SBD double act of Father and Son Phillip and Stuart Wood wheeled out their Westfield SEi. Both fairly flew around the two laps with Stuart squeezing a 79.52 out of the machine and Phillip an 83.01 for class 1st and 2nd respectively.

Roadgoing Specialist Production over 1700cc featured another family entry with Liz and Kevin Padley bringing their SSC Stylus up from Southampton. A spin for Kevin on T1meant his T2 was his best, producing an 89.23 with Liz's T1 setting her best effort of 94.19.

The Modified Production Kit Cars class was the start of a horde of Westfields but Christopher and David Hussey broke the mold with their Raw Stryker against Brian Jones's Westfield SEi. It was to be Chris Hussey who took the points on an 80.58 for 3rd in class. Brian came in on 81.58 set on T1 with David Hussey on 83.40 after a fail on his T1.

The final SBD runners were in Sports Libre up to 2000cc which had a nice assortment of ADR, Radical ,Global GT2 and Magnum C75 making up the class. A battle raged with Simon Marsh's lovely ADR 2MCE and Clive Wooster's Radical SR4, Wooster holding the lead at Lunchbreak. Marsh gradually edged ahead though to win the class on 76.57 against a 77.96 from the Wooster Radical.

So after a prizegiving where our Co-ordinator, Noreen, handed out the prizes, the SBD competitors left a breezy but sunny Llandow to face Curborough Long Circuit next on Saturday 7th August."
